Doug's Story
Doug Morganroth, a friendly and engaging man from Northeast Oklahoma, was working as a power grid lineman when his life drastically changed. While making repairs to a downed power line, he was injured by a fierce electric shock—an injury that would rob him of both legs below the knee, and claim his right arm above the elbow.
With the broad impact of his injuries, Doug’s recovery was lengthy. He claims his faith and family support as instrumental in his journey. After spending an extended period in a local hospital specializing in care for burns, Doug was fit with his first prostheses but struggled with his prosthetic care at several different providers. After two years, Doug found Jeff Arnette, CPO at Progressive and has been our favorite patient ever since. Doug's situation was complex; his lower residual limbs were very sensitive due to the nature of his injuries, and he had considerable phantom pain. His right arm had been amputated at a high level, making it difficult to adequately control a prosthetic arm.
It took several iterations of socket design and material, but Jeff was able to craft a solution that enabled Doug to walk comfortably and easily.Either you do or you don't... everybody has their ups and downs, but either you sit there and feel sorry for yourself, or you get up and go on.
Doug was also fit with a Myoelectric prosthesis, and has used this in his daily life to aid in performing everyday tasks. Doug has since been able to return to many of the activities he enjoyed previously, working with in his shop and with his horses on his small farm.
Doug's outlook on life is an inspiring one. Despite the loss of three limbs, as well as many other recovery challenges: severe burns, multiple revision surgeries, he has taken his challenges in stride.
Doug has certainly followed his own advice. His spirit is contagious and his determination is incredible.
